In 2015, the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the launch of a federal Domestic Violence and Housing Technical Assistance Consortium. The Consortium emerged because of an interagency working group convened by the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) to address the impact of domestic violence on family homelessness. The federal agencies funded four organizations to foster increased collaboration among domestic violence and homeless service providers and provide national training, technical assistance (TA), and resource development on DV and housing.
Funded and supported by this interagency collaboration, the Consortium brings together national, state, and local organizations with expertise on housing and domestic and sexual violence to build and strengthen TA to culturally specific programs, homelessness/housing service providers and victim service providers through the national initiative known as Safe Housing Partnerships (SHP).
Now the Safe Housing Partnerships Technical Assistance Consortium (or SHPTAC), the Consortium underwent a name change to better reflect its commitment to the housing needs of sexual assault survivors and their families.
