Housing Q&A for Survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence during COVID-19

Abstract

The National Alliance for Safe Housing (NASH) and the National Housing Law Project (NHLP) have created this Q&A for survivors who have questions about their housing rights during COVID-19. The Q&A discusses survivors’ ongoing housing protections under the Violence Against Women Act, fair housing laws, and state/local landlord-tenant laws. It also provides information about the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) temporary eviction moratorium and how tenants, including survivors, can qualify for these protections. Finally, the Q&A provides links to critical resources, including state/local eviction and utility shutoff moratoriums as well as emergency rental assistance programs.
